Holy Week this year begins with Palm Sunday on April 13th where we will have a traditional language service of Holy Communion at 8am, Parish Eucharist with Procession, blessing of Palm Crosses, and the reading of the Passion story at 10am and a service of Choral Evensong at 4.30pm
Because of the importance of this week we will, as well as having our online Daily Prayers at noon Monday through Thursday, have special services each day.
Monday sees us sharing Holy Communion with Prayers of Penitence at 5.30pm. A simple service, with space for reflection and sharing of the Eucharist. There will be a small amount of incense at this service.
Tuesday has Holy Communion with Prayers for Healing, again at 5.30pm, where we can be prayed for on our own behalf, or bring the needs of others.
Wednesday has a special Drop-in Soul Space event, with the opportunity to experience multi-sensory prayer stations related to the whole of the Passion and Easter story - the Church will be open from 5.30pm until 7.30pm, with prayers and a song to mark the beginning and end.
Maundy Thursday sees us sharing in a simple pasta meal at 5.30 (must be booked in advance) and the main observance of this important day at 7pm with our Parish Eucharist, sharing in the remembering the first Holy Communion at 'the Last Supper, and ending with the powerful 'Stripping of the Altars and Chancel'
Good Friday, our most solemn day, is marked by the Good Friday Liturgy at 10am, with sung Passion Gospel and Adoration of the Cross and by the Last Three Hours, from noon until 3pm. Then we depart in silence.
On Holy Saturday, at 8pm, we join with our Cathedral for the Great Vigil of Easter, including Vigil Readings and Psalms, Lighting of the Easter Fire and Paschal Candles, renewal of our Baptism Covenant, and the first Eucharist of Easter.
And we will celebrate at St John's with Easter Day events which include our traditional 8am Holy Communion and Parish Communion at 10am (followed by refreshments)
