Reopening for Worship

The Anglican Church of St John the Divine is open! The office is staffed mornings Monday-Friday, though we do ask that people book an appointment before visiting. Some gatherings are taking place, socially distanced, in well-ventilated spaces, but many of our groups will continue on zoom until a substantial decrease in the number of cases of COVID-19 occurs in our Province.

We are glad that we are able to offer in-person worship and we are now meeting onin-person on Sundays, for both the 10am Parish Eucharist and our Choral Evensong at 5:30. Both services will continue to be live-streamed. We have listened carefully to the desire from our worshipping community and staff members to regather, and following Provincial guidelines and instructions from the Bishop's Office we have a limited number of spaces available for worship.

We will still be following COVID-19 protocols, meaning that we will be wearing masks during the service, only receiving bread at the Eucharist, and keeping physical distancing measures – this means that in order to attend you will need to book for the morning service via bookings@stjohnthedivine.bc.ca and let us know how many you are hoping to book for. Your booking will be confirmed soon after you send your email – please book by the Thursday before you hope to attend and please don’t book more than two weeks in advance.  Please note, as we are continuing what we have been calling our Zoom Hybrid format, there will be times when those of us in the Church building will not see contributors such as intercessors, readers, or even preachers – though we will be able to hear them through our sound system.

The evening service will not need to be booked but please arrive a few minutes before we begin to sign in and find a place to sit.

These measures, as directed by the Bishop’s Office, will remain in place to keep us as safe and healthy as possible whilst the pandemic continues, they won’t be in place forever but for now we do need to take as much care as possible.

We have not yet decided when we will resume some of our midweek Eucharist activities and we hope that we will find ourselves with much more flexibility in the coming months. With these measures in place for the time being, we are still excited to be able to meet together again in person and look forward to welcoming you in the near future.
