Have you ever been in pain, need, or distress, and felt like God was nowhere to be found? If so, you are not alone. The Book of Job, almost half the Psalms, and even Jesus himself give voice and expression to the despair that arises when we cry out to God and hear nothing but silence. This morning, we consider the terrible experience of God's silence, and our human struggle to understand why God -- who is loving and good -- appears indifferent to our personal suffering.
