Today we mark twin occasions: first, the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels, and second, Orange Shirt Day, a day to remember survivors of the Indian Residential Schools and the trauma once inflicted upon Indigenous children. Recalling that a literal meaning for the word "angel" (Greek: "angelos") is "messenger," we are invited to consider the many ways that God sends "angels" into our lives to inform, inspire, comfort and protect us. Indeed, as we wear orange shirts today to proclaim the message "Every Child Matters," perhaps we too have become God's angels for this purpose.
