We are called as followers of Jesus to a place of deep care for the world and its people. We are not called to be detached from the world, or to regard it from a place of judgement, but to be deeply empathic with the needs of others, to offer compassion and grace to all whom we meet.

In this comes a freedom which frees us from being self-absorbed, or self-obsessed, we are free to feel along with others - not to take their troubles, or seek to be their 'saviours', but to hold space with them and to offer that unconditional love that Christ exemplifies. The love of God.

Weep with those who weep, the Late Late Service, Glasgow

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
