The Living Presence group meets for meditation every second Monday in the chapel. The name of the group is taken from the first book they studied together The Living Presence by Sufi writer Kabir Helminsky. They are currently revisiting the 114 'sayings' or 'logia' of the Gospel of Thomas. The number of people who attend is generally between 6-12. A few are members of St. John the Divine and other members are from other churches or do not attend a church.

Meetings start with a chant or two followed by a reading of a 'saying' or logion from Thomas's Gospel. On one Monday this will be followed by a triple silent meditation of 20 minute periods interspersed with two 5 minute silent walking meditations. Two weeks later the group follows a reading of the same 'saying' or logion with a double meditation of 20 minute periods interspersed with a 5 minute walking meditation and then a discussion of the 'saying'. People take turns volunteering to lead the group meditations and discussions.

All are welcome.
