Night Shelter

St. John’s participates in a program of providing night shelter for street people in the downtown area. Each Monday from November to April, about 30 young people eat and sleep in the basement of the church hall. Regular workers from Beacon Community Services remain with these young people overnight.

Volunteers from St. John’s are present from 9:30 pm to midnight, and from 6:30 in the morning. The volunteers serve meals and clean up. Other volunteers take turns cooking a large casserole for each night.

This important ministry is coordinated by Gerry Melville until January 2010. Gerry can be contacted at (250) 598-7785 or . Helpers are needed!

*People don't actually sleep in a crypt. They sleep in the church basement. However, there is a crypt elsewhere in the church basement.
