"At last it has arrived: Victoria's very own professional, no compromises, full meal deal, baroque ensemble." -James Young, Music in Victoria
Music from the Baroque period played as it was meant to be: on instruments from the period, in an informed, intimate, and vivacious manner!
The Victoria Baroque Players played their debut concert on Palm Sunday April 17th 2011, a performance decribed as an 'impressive debut,' the group being 'a major addition to the Victoria music scene'. The Victoria-based period instrument ensemble was formed with the mission of bringing high-quality performances of Baroque music to the Victoria audience, using the abundance of local skill and talent.
The musicians are all from Victoria and nearby areas, and are well-established figures in the West-Coast music scene. The experiences of individual players include playing with groups such as the Pacific and Portand Baroque Orchestras, English Consort, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Vancouver and Victoria Symphonies.
For the 2011-2012 season the Victoria Baroque Players are launching a series of four concerts, themed around J. S. Bach's cantatas and concertos. Come and join a captivating journey through Bach's music with Victoria's new and exciting early music ensemble!
“Next to the word of God, only music deserves being extolled as the mistress and governess of Human feelings. And when music is sharpened and polished by art, then one begins to see with amazement the great and perfect Wisdom of God in his wonderful work of harmony.” -Martin Luther
