Presentation & community discussion |
We can despair at the enormity of the problem of Global Warming, or we can
come together to work on solutions at the grass roots level. This
is the approach being taken by the recently formed Care for Creation Committee
at the Church of St. John the Divine in partnership with First Metropolitan
United.
“We are inviting local neighbors, businesses and members of other faith
communities to participate in a discussion around actions we can take at
the grass roots level to address the issue of global warming. This
is a problem that will affect everyone on earth, and it is an issue that
we can work on together – regardless of our belief systems.” says
St. John the Divine parishioner, Clare Attwell.
First Metropolitan United and St. John the Divine are co-hosting a presentation,
on February 12th, by Brian Gordon, to be followed by a discussion with local
individuals and groups working practically and politically to reduce carbon
emissions. Brian, the feature presenter, has just returned after
having been trained by Al Gore and his team to do a power
point presentation covering the material in the Oscar nominated documentary "An
Inconvenient Truth". Brian inputs local information
from the Sierra Club and other local sources in order to make the presentation more
relevant.
The organizers of this event are reaching out to many inter-faith groups:
from Muslim to Christian; and, to local neighbors: residents and businesses. They
are encouraging attendees to see this as an opportunity to bring friends,
family and neighbors with them so that they too, can, more effectively,
become part of the solution to one of the biggest challenges of our time.
