My Memory’s Not So Good
by Matthew Payne
Inspired by Joan Mans
Over a period of twenty or more years - in the 1970s-19902 - Joan Mans was a member of St. John’s and well known in the city as a person who hunded out programs at the arts envents. She was a vital personality who lived alone on public assistance and enjoyed the company of many young people - especially those in the arts.
In Joan’s latter years, she was befriended by Matthew Payne, a promising young actor and playwright who is often seen on the stage at the Belfry Theatre. He was with Joan when she died and Matthew later sponsored a public event at the Belfry Theatre where thhose who knew Joan could speak of their relationship with and memory of Joan. The theatre was packed.
Currently, the Belfry Theatre’s Spark Festival is underway and one of the features is the initial public reading of Payne’s new work, “My Memory Is Not So Good”
