The Lounge

This summer the lounge was painted, the furniture replaced and the carpet updated under the direction of Claire Munn. The result is one fantastic looking lounge. Cost: $25,000.

The lounge is decorated to pick up on the simplicity of the Arts and Craft style of the parish house. Simplicity is maintained through the repetition of colour and pattern in the fabrics. Colours in the room come from the Paisley fabric on the two sofas and two chairs. The colours are a deep brownish red, deep yellow gold, and two shades of a greenish yellow.

We wanted the room to be much lighter than the previous dark taupe colour so the lighter of the greenish yellow colours was used on the majority of the walls. The window wells have accents of a deeper green to enhance the multi-coloured, striped curtains.

The carpet picks up two elements from the fabric on the couches. The carpet's pattern mimics the Paisley leaf. The carpet's colour is used in the fabric of the couch.

Particularly important is that the sofas, chairs (leather and upholstered) and rug are all designed to meet commercial quality standards. The tables and lamps came from Lazy-Boy (pronounced "lah-zed-boy" in Canada) and were chosen to support the traditional English style of other furniture in the room.

All the companies have been generous in giving the church considerable discounts of 20 to 40%.

Claire was assisted by Vanessa Stone of Styled Spaces. Vanessa is the interior decorator who worked with Claire Munn and led her to commercial quality materials. Vanessa also provided contacts with a wide variety of businesses. They included Marilyn Dodsworth, representative of Stylus through whom all the leather chairs, sofas and upholstered chairs were purchased, Jason Ziebart of Island Floor Centre Ltd., Leigh Brumwell with Pacific Blinds and Drapes, Arn Senra a wonderful painter who also painted the crypt, and Lisbeth with Lazy-Boy who helped us find the wooden end and coffee tables.

We are in the midst of choosing a design of a projection screen for lectures or film nights.

Soon there will be a framed picture of Bill and Alice Denson. This will include a plaque to commemorate the volunteer work of Bill and Alice. It was Alice's request that their generous gift to the parish be used to re-furbish the architecturally lovely lounge.

The Property Committee hopes that everyone will be pleased with the room. When it is completed, there will be a celebration with the Denson family.
