Anglican Partnerships

While October is Anglican Appeal month across the Canadian Church the work supported by the Appeal goes on for twelve months of the year. The Appeal has us focus on the Church beyond our parish in the North and Overseas. Dioceses in the Council of the North receive grants from the Appeal, as does the Indigenous Healing Fund. We are all familiar with the Anglican Appeal support for the Church overseas through our partnerships and sponsorship of the Volunteers in Mission programmes.  At http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Bruce-and-Gerry-in-Tanzania/ , you can read of Gerry & Bruce Melville’s work in Dodoma, Tanzania as Volunteers in Mission.

VIM is just part of our work overseas where the Anglican Church is often growing beyond its resources.  The Canadian Anglican Church, through its Partners in Mission programme, engages in work in three global areas: Africa, Asia/Pacific, Latin America/Caribbean where we have had long, trusted, mutually supportive relationships for many years.  These relationships are ones of family – the Anglican global family supporting and sustaining each other.

At a time when other global fundraising campaigns are able to make their appeals through expensive TV clips or through the messages from well known personalities, it is good to remember that the basis of support of the Anglican Appeal is limited to Anglicans, just us.  Donations may be sent to the Anglican Appeal Office 80 Hayden St. Toronto, M4Y 3G2, or through the parish, or at www.anglican.ca.

Grants that might provide help in day care centres for HIV/Aids stricken families in Africa, or books for our brothers and sisters studying at Saint Peter’s Bible College in the Diocese of Toungoo, Burma, or a grant that provides help for theological students completing their training in the Solomon Islands – all these are ways in which we as Canadian Anglicans support our Anglican sisters and brothers.

There are many, many calls on our financial help from many foundations and appeals.  This one – this Anglican Appeal – is a “family matter” – and our family is counting on us.
