The 3-10-10 Action Plan
Our operating expenses are usually 10% more than our operating revenues. This
leads to deficits. This “10% Problem” cannot continue indefinitely
nor can it be solved overnight. Instead, we need a longer term strategy:
the 3-10-10 Action Plan.
Over the next 3 years we will take 10 steps to remove the 10% Problem:
- Long Term Plan: Develop an evidence-based, agreed-upon,
realistic and financially feasible longer term Plan to guide our program,
property and staffing decisions over the short term
- Growth: Increase the Parish Roll, the number of
envelope givers, the number of pledged donations and the number of
givers using Pre-Authorized Debits by 10% by the end of 2009 (versus
the number at the end of 2006).
- Givings: Provide an exciting vision and relevant
facts about our plans and priorities, our associated financial needs
and our stewardship policies so that parishioners can make informed
and confident decisions about their givings; pray that the message
is heard and acted on
- Rentals: Boost facility rentals by 10% a year via
higher rates and/or greater usage; ask other users of our property
to pay their fair share
- Fund Raising: Create more fund-raising events that
also engage and welcome the community
- Capital Campaigns: Mount distinctive campaigns to
fund major capital projects (such as a new roof) or to acquire new
capital assets (such as computers).
- New Activities: Launch new initiatives, projects
or programs only if the associated costs are known and there is likely
to be no negative impact on the church’s financial situation.
- Cost Savings: Trim selected operating costs (such
as copying, office supplies, utilities) by 5%.
- Enduring Gifts: Establish and implement a Planned
Giving Program
- Cottage Operating Costs: Develop and implement
a plan to eliminate/reduce the net outreach costs of maintaining, insuring,
repairing, heating, cleaning and securing the Cottage
Note: Parish Council will work with the Rector and church staff to ensure
that the accountability for leading these initiatives is clear and agreed-upon.
Note: Your feedback, questions or ideas about this Action Plan are welcome.
